Minister of Education, Marja Van Bijsterveldt launches a campaign to get parents more involved in the education process of their children.

“It would definitely have a positive impact on the development of the students if parents would be more involved in the education of their children” says Van Bijsterveldt.

The minister emphasizes that the responsibility for a proper education and development of students does not solely lay with the schools, arguing that parents should be more closely involved.

“A child is not a project you do on the side.” says Van Bijsterveldt. “A child, a job, life is like a breakfast buffet, we would like to have a piece of everything but we have to choose”

Van Bijsterveldt plans to use the means of social media to communicate with parents about education and nurture of students and announced that she will be holding a conference on the matter by the end of next year.

Authority

Van Bijsterveldt, urges parents to respect and support the authority of the teachers.  She states that the education process is harmed when teachers are undermined by the parents: “Parents should not be overly sensitive about their children, filing charges against lecturers left and right,  harms the quality of education” according to the minister.
